Robofest Summer Day Camp 2003

Robotics is a wonderful motivator in science and engineering education.
In order to maximize student's learning, Lawrence Tech University, Computer
Science / Robotics lab is pleased to announce Robofest Summer Day Camp 2003,
which is a one day contest in which the problem specification will be given
on the day of event in the morning after a brief workshop.
Students may use RCX code, RoboLab, NQC or Java.
No adult help is allowed and the students must create the code
on site. The problem will be a small enough task that should be completed in
a short time frame of one day.
- Registration:
- Only max. 35 teams can register on a first come, first served basis.
- Must be registered by an adult coach who has an official email
address by sending an email to
chung@ltu.edu with the following information:
- Coach name, email address, phone number, and mail address
- For each team: student names up to two and their grades.
- Lunch options: (1) LTU cafeteria or (2) Bring a brown bag
(University Cafeteria will be open for lunch,
if there are more than 50 people who want to buy lunch at the University.)
- The coach is responsible for transportation and overseeing the
team members. Also, must bring a signed release form for each child on the day of competition.
- The organizer will send a confirmation email.
- Eligibility to register
- 5th grade - 12 grade students
- Each team must bring a computer (laptop preferred) with
the software for programming RCX
- A Lego robot kit (Lego Mindstorms) with fresh batteries.
- One extra motor is required to bring. It will be used to build an arm to hit the floor
- It is required that each team must preconstruct "RoverBot"
before coming to the contest and it must go as straight as possible
- Please note that this contest is like a programming contest.
Each team must have prior experience and knowledge in programming
Lego robots and should be ready to accept the challenge on the day of
competition. During the workshop, only essential tips such as
RCX communications will be covered.
(We do not teach basics of each programming language.)
- Tentative Schedule
- Check-in: 8:30am - 9:00am
- Brief workshop: 9:00am - 10:00am
- Challenge problem given at 10:00am
- Qualifying test begins: 10:30am
- Group presentations: 1:00pm-2:00pm (Only the robots who passed the qualifying test can participate in robot group dance performance. Please stay tuned for more details.)
- Closing: 2:30pm
- Every registered participants who passed qualifying test
will get a framed "Certificate of
Achievement" with a team photo.
- Registration Fee: $10 for a team with one student. $15 for teams with
two students. Maximum number of students is two per team. The fee is
due upon arrival. This fee does not include lunch.
Can be paid by cash or check (payable to Lawrence
Tech University) only. No credit card accepted.
