Canton Charter Academy's Campus Visit, 11-18-05

We had around 100 people from Canton Charter Academy in M218. Many parents asked questions about LTU academic programs and campus life too. Nicole from admission's office as well as two LTU students did wonderful job to introduce all about LTU. \ Steve and Emily did unforgettable AIBO robot demo. The robot dog dance was the climax. Of course, I would like to thank Lori to organize the event. I should not forget the essential assistance from Norman from AV Dept. To see how the event was, please check out a photo album on the web at photo album

Robofest at YES! Expo and MDSTA conference

We had a Robofest booth at the YES (Youth Engineering and Science) Expo, www.yes.mtu.edu, at Ford Field on Oct 26. Thousands of students and teachers visited the expo and about 600-800 people stopped by Lawrence Tech and Robofest table. Some pictures from the event can be found at this thumbnail photo album.
On Saturday, Oct 29, Lori Birman presented about Robofest during the 65th MDSTA (Metro Detroit Science Teachers Association), mdsta.org, held at LTU campus. Her title of the talk was "Robofest, a Fun Autonomous Robotics Contest for Students in Grades 5-12". CJ Chung gave a talk about educational laptop robot for high school classes. In atrium, Robofest had a booth. Robotics lab assistant E. Trudell showed Robofest video and introduced Robofest. Here is a photo showing Robofest table setup.

IGVC 2005 Think-Tank Wrapup Meeting

On Aug 23, there was a meeting in the Robotics lab to wrapup IGVC 2005 Think-Tank. Many former IGVC team members, prospective members for 2006, Dean Moore and Dr. Bindschadler came to the meeting started with 46 min DVD presentation. This year, LTU Think-Tank robot was in the top ten in all competition categories of IGVC (Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition) held in Traverse City, June 11-13. In the Autonomous Challenge competition category, our robot traveled 232 feet. Our place was 10th out of 34 world class universities. In the GPS Navigation Challenge, we reached 4 waypoints and placed 9th. In the design competition, we won 5th place for our group B with 17 teams. You can download our robot design report as well as many photos from our IGVC 2005 team web page is at ltu164.ltu.edu/igvc Math and Computer Science Dept. sponsored materials to construct our intelligent robots, LTU Alumni association supported student's trip to Traverse City, EDCC provided extra battery for MPC laptops which is the brain of the robots. Also Lee Keshishian, mechanical engineering machine shop, gave computer science students a big help. For next year, we would like to welcome engineering students to join the IGVC team. If you are interested in, please contact Dr. Chung at chung@LTU.edu.
