2005 COMAP Mathematical Contest in Modeling (February 4th - 7th 2005)

Four LTU teams participated in the 2005 COMAP MCM:
  • Control #595: Brad, Roy, and Steve
  • Control #596: Jeremy, Patricia, and Drew
  • Control #660: Chris, Nick, and Duane
  • Control #661: Kerri, Luke R, and Warren
Three long days of researching, problem solving, paper writing, eating, plus a power outage! This year's problems were: Flood Planning for the Lake Murrary Dam (Problem A), Optimal Number of Tollbooths for a toll plaza (Problem B), or Nonrenewable Resources (the ICM problem)
Operations Research Talk by Dr. Dennis Blumenfeld of GM Research

On January 25, 2005 we hosted Dr. Dennis Blumenfeld to talk about his work in the automotive industry using operations research and math modeling techniques. One interesting example he gave was an experiment which modelled the commute time and speed of traffic during rush hour using GPS traffic data collected by his colleagues.
